Hope can make all the difference

With the grace of the Almighty and the support from the team and sponsors we were able to feed the communities of Lavender Hill, Manenberg, Delft and Vrygrond. What amazing people we connected with from the community feeding their communities daily basis.

These communities often suffer from poverty, gangsterism and drugs which results in many adults and children feeling hopeless, due to not having food, not able to obtain an education and continuous struggles to seek employment. Imagine not having food, or what’s even worse is knowing you want something, besides knowing you cannot have it?

Today we managed to feed approximately 1,800 mouths taking the total mouths fed to date to 26,050. We hope that each meal provided to these communities with hope and impact their perception of life.

We would like to thank everyone for your generosity to make a difference to humanity. Together we can achieve more and make a difference.

What legacy do we want to leave behind?

As human beings we tend to ask ourselves questions that allow us to reflect on the betterment of ourselves and allowing us to reflect on the time that passed. How many of us ponder that our time on earth is limited and want to make a difference in the lives of others, but have never taken the first step? The sad reality of life is that time is something we want most, but what we tend to use the worst. What is strange is that time always has a way of showing us what truly matters, therefore many of us has a turning point in our life when we want to make difference in the lives of others or to leave behind a legacy when we depart this earth. What we seem to forget is that one needs to walk within that legacy on a daily basis in order for it to become reality in the end.

Today we managed to provide 1,300 meals to the community in Khayelitsha, Parkwood, Lentegeur, as well as our elderly at Beitul Aman Old Age Home in Wynberg taking the total mouths fed to date to 24,250. Although our goal since starting in April 2021 was to feed 29,000 of the impoverished and destitute, despite not meeting our goal we are proud of what has been achieved in this short time period. Our focus during our journey has been more than just feeding, providing relief to those in need in other areas, such as sheltering the homeless and providing comfort to our women by providing sanitary pads, amongst other initiatives which includes supporting families.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank all our sponsors, the team and for all your prayers which allows us to continue feeding the impoverished and destitute.

So to end off, I ask the question, “When are you going to reflect on your time spent on this earth and are you willing to do better with the remaining time left, because a life well lived will always have been long enough”. Please support our initiatives as it will make a difference in the lives of others.

Love for humanity

As we face many challenges in our daily lives, some in our control and other not, we tend to become sad and unhappy. We look at the world as a pessimist instead of understanding that with each breath we take there is always hope. So why should we be hopeful? We should be hopeful as each day brings about many blessings for instance the Almighty has granted us gifts such as sight, hearing, smelling, the ability to stand upright because of our bones, the ability to move because of our muscles and also the ability to be hopeful that with every difficulty we experience comes ease.

These gifts given to us represents the love the Almighty has for each and everyone of us. So how should we reciprocate this love from the Almighty? As human beings we are all given a purpose in life which should include serving His creation. We would therefore like to inspire others to serve humanity in order to show gratitude for the many gifts we have been granted. We are fortunate to answer the prayers for food from those impoverished, orphaned and destitute.

Today we did a community drive, feeding the impoverished and destitute in the informal settlements in the Athlone and the surrounding area. We distributed to the Pooke Road Informal Settlement, Egoli Informal Settlement, The Vlei Informal Settlement and two informal settlements in Belgravia. How blessed we were to put a smile on the faces of our guests young and old and seeing them enjoy their meal. Despite this heartfelt moment feeding humanity it was heart sore to see the residence of these informal settlements not having access to clean water.

In addition to the feeding of the informal settlements, we also provided food to the Montana Primary School in Kalksteenfontein. We would like to thank Infarmer for providing this contact which will allow us to feed their community for many years to come.

In total we managed to feed on average 1,100 mouths. With our feedings from the Belhar team in December and January and today’s feeding initiative we have managed to exceed 20,000 mouths taking the total mouths fed to date to 22,850. We thank each of our sponsors, family, friends and the team for all your continued support.

Little by little a bird makes its nest

As we start our cooking for the year ahead, we reflect on how a bird perseveres to make its nest and feed their little ones. Each day a bird would leave its nest without provisions looking to sustain their little ones. Without fail the Almighty makes this possible providing provisions on a daily basis to their little ones.

As humans we are not any different, however what makes this not possible is due to the amount of people suffering from poverty due to unemployment in our country. It is each one of our duties who are by the means to try and assist those struggling on a daily basis to relieve those suffering of poverty in our country. The more this mindset is instilled in us, the more we are able to make a change. Although it might small and insignificant, it is significant to those in need.

Today we managed to feed 1,300 mouths taking the total mouths fed to 17,550. We fed the community in Khayelitsha, Vrygrond and the old age home in Wynberg. What a pleasure it was to see a smile on the faces of the recipients. We are grateful to serve our communities and would like to thank each and everyone of our sponsors and the team for your continued support.

May this year ahead inspire others to assist the impoverished and destitute and allow us to empower people within these communities with programmes which create sustainable feeding initiatives. Together we are able to make a bigger difference to those in need.

Bringing a smile to an orphan child

“Children are our greatest treasure. They are our future.” – Nelson Mandela. As investing in children are one of our most valuable resources as they create hope for a better future, we wanted to end the year off putting a smile on the faces of children in need.

The target for this drive was to provide toys and party packs for 100 kids. Through the grace of the Almighty we managed to exceed our target providing a smile to 140 orphans and children in need. We would like to thank Play Date Super Parks in assisting with the toy drive as well as all the sponsors that made this possible.

We distributed the toys and party boxes to 140 children of Leliebloem Children’s Home, Christine Revell, Orphans of Surrey Estate, St Michael’s Child and Youth Care Centre and SA Children’s Home. It was heart warming to see these little faces light up for something we might seem so small, brought them so much joy.

This year thanks to the Almighty and your support we manage to exceed all our objectives. One thing we realised during this year is that inside everyone resides goodness. When we have in our hands what another person needs, the Almighty is answering that persons prayers through us. Sometimes our lives become so busy that we forget what really matters and that we are able to make a difference in the lives of others. Together with your support we were able to make a small difference in the lives of those in need.

Since April this year we managed to feed 16,525 mouths, provide comfort to 530 women for 3 months with our sanitary drive, provided food parcels to 100 families, providing shelter to 1,000 homeless and put a smile on 240 children through our eid and children drives. Without your support this would not be possible, therefore we would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank all our sponsors and everyone involved for their contributions this year, it is appreciated and we are grateful.

As Imam Ali once said, “Aim to live in this world without allowing the world to live inside you, because when a boat sits on water, it sails perfectly but when water enters inside the boat, it sinks.” Together may we be able to achieve more in even more in 2022 and make a bigger difference to those in need.

Target reached to shelter 1,000 homeless this Festive Season

We would like to thank the Almighty for granting us the strength to fulfil our goal in providing Shelter to 1,000 homeless people this festive season and providing 1,000 meals yesterday. We would also like to thank our sponsors that donated generously to this initiative, it is much appreciated.

The 16 December 2021, is a significant day to us as South Africans which came into effect in 1995 after the end of apartheid, with the intention of fostering reconciliation and national unity for the country. This day allows us to not forget about our history and conflict in our country but it is a way to focus on how we can make our country better for our children.

At Falaah Foundation we celebrated this day by raising funds and providing meals to 1,000 homeless people. In 2019, there were approximately 4,862 homeless people living in Cape Town, according to figures by the Western Cape provincial government, which indicates the need to provide shelter.

Homelessness is something that many people witness but very few are willing to talk about. Even in mainstream media, homeless people are either vilified or glorified. But very few tackle how it really is to become homeless.

Unfortunately, not a lot of people realize this. The common notion is that homelessness is somewhat a choice. That the homeless deserve what they are going through because they didn’t study hard or look for a job. But no, it should not be looked at in this manner and we should assist humanity in whichever way possible.

As Mother Teresa once said, “We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked, and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty”.

Additionally, our Belhar team fed approximately 300 people in Valhalla Park.

For transparency we provide not only the images of yesterday’s drive but also the confirmation of payment made to The Haven Night Shelter.

Patience the art of hope

Currently we are faced with another wave of covid infections predicted to hit our country this festive season. This instils fear, not only in our little ones but also in us as adults increasing our anxiety during this time.

Today we fed approximately 1,400 mouths in Khayelitsha, Vrygrond and Parkwood taking the total mouth fed to date to 13,025 mouths. When distributing we asked ourselves why none of these communities seem to be concerned about covid, which is evident by non adherence to wearing masks and the way people socialise. However, if one were to step into their shoes for a day, one would be more concerned about shelter, food and protecting ones loved ones whereas covid would be a secondary issue therefore the non adherence is not educational.

It is important that each one of us instil hope in humanity during this time and bear patience to achieve this Hope. Although patience may seem to be bitter at first, the fruits thereof is sweet. We have been faced with this pandemic for almost two years and we should be in a position to understand and accept the fact that sometimes things must in unfold in their own time. Patience is thus a form of Wisdom that we need to put our trust in the Almighty however tie our camels (take precaution).

We would like to firstly thank the Almighty for giving us the strength and all our sponsors for their generous contributions making it possible to feed another day. Together we are able to achieve more.

Everyday is an opportunity to do more

One sits and ponder regarding the poverty and inequality in our country. How can a country and continent being the largest food producers in the world have so much people starving of hunger on a daily basis? Clearly it takes change to make change, which starts with inspiring one another to help humanity by serving the creation of the creator.

As Mahatma Gandhi said, “It’s the action, not the fruit of the action, that’s important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there’ll be any fruit. But that doesn’t mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result”.

This profound quote teaches us that an intention alone is not sufficient, but that it should be followed by action. It takes change to make change. Yesterday we manage to provide food to 1,000 people and additionally the team in Belhar managed to feed 300 people taking the total mouths fed to 11,625 mouths fed to date.

We would like to thank the Almighty for the strength, to all our sponsors and the Falaah Foundation team for making this all possible. We are able to achieve more if we work together.

Below are some pictures of yesterday’s feeding of Beitul Aman and CPOA Silvertown Old Age Homes, the feeding at Pooke Road and The Vlei informal settlements and the feeding in Lentegeur where kids went door to door to distribute food to families in the area.

Falaah growth into Belhar

We are thankful to the sponsors for assisting us in providing ingredients to the Belhar kitchen which we supported since the end of October. The reason for the establishment of associated branches such as Belhar is to make a difference in other communities around Cape Town as we alone are unable to make a big impact.

Through feeding initiatives we get acquainted with many people that becomes part of a network used to benefit humanity. We are so thankful that the team in Belhar can assist the communities of Belhar and Valhalla Park feeding approximately 600 to 1,000 people each week.

Below are some photos of the feeding initiatives in Belhar and Valhalla Park.

Milestones and Moments

As we reach the milestone of 10,000 mouths fed, we reflect on the moments that led us to achieving this milestone. At commencement a very important moment was the good intention made to serve humanity which blessed everything that led to us achieving this milestone.

As we celebrate feeding 10,325 people to date we do so by showing our appreciation for what we have been granted and being grateful to the Almighty for allowing us the opportunity to serve his creation. In celebration we fed 500 mouths, three children homes: Leliebloem; St George’s; and St Michael’s, as well as the informal settlements in Athlone namely: Pooke Road; and the Vlei.

So what are some of the memorable moments that formed part of this milestone? We managed to provide 100 families with food for a week, provided comfort to 530 women for 3 months by providing them with 12,640 sanitary pads, established a associated branch in Belhar to feed the Belhar, Valhalla Park and Blikkies Dorp communities, established relationships with the elderly, abused women and children through our feeding initiatives and embarked on raising funds to develop our online platform to assist with the inequality in our country.

So what is more important? The milestone or the moment? We believe both are equally important as the moments provide substance to the milestones which are a snapshot at a point in time. This milestone allows us to learn from the past and prepare for the road ahead as it is not the endgame that matters most but the moments that got us to where we are.

We are sincerely thankful to all our sponsors, family and friends for all your support, it allows us as a collective to make a difference by providing nourishment for those in need. Below are a few pictures of today’s initiative.
