Since the day we born, our beloved mothers nurtured us providing food to ensure our survival. Food has always played a critical part of our lives, ensuring we are nourished on a daily basis. How sad it is that whilst we enjoying a warm nourishing meal on a daily basis, some have not had a meal for the entire week.
There is a sacredness in sharing food, it is one of humanity’s oldest practices, a gesture that is important to many cultures and religions. When one offers a meal to someone who is hungry, you are not just filling an empty plate; you are pulling up a chair to an invitation to a table, saying, You belong, You are not forgotten.
Today we extended our table to 2,750 guests from the communities of Khayelitsha, Vrygrond, Lavender Hill, Retreat, Manenberg, Schaapkraal, Milnerton and Seawings taking the total mouths fed to date to 253,950. We would like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers that made it possible.
Being selfless, not expecting anything in return reminds us that the world’s brokenness is not beyond repair, that healing begins with one person, one meal, one kind gesture at a time.
